Quality Written Curriculum Map Analysis
Since curriculum maps are frequently accessed, read, and discussed by teachers during curriculum reviews without the map writer or writers present, consistency in wording, format, and intra-alignment throughout a learning organization contributes significantly to the quality and clarity regarding accurate map data interpretation. Learning both the language of mapping and proper recording protocols are paramount to establishing and maintaining your learning organization's desired level of curriculum articulation and alignment.
Curriculum map analysis is a service that provides a professional review of any type of map (Projected/Diary Map, Consensus Map, or Essential Map) using any mapping system, or if not yet using a system, using a generic template document.
When conducting a map analysis I:
a) make a copy of the map month or series of up to three months or units so map writer(s) can compare the original documentation to the recommended-revisions map notations and commentaries;
b) study the map data based on recommended guidelines for quality mapping wording, format, and intra-alignment as described in Chapter 4 of A Guide to Curriculum Mapping: Planning, Implementing, and Sustaining the Process, or the documents included in the Creating Quality Maps section of the Resources page;
c) revise the map months or units’ data by making notations directly on the map copies;
d) write reflective commentaries including reminders and specific recommendations based on the map’s current quality.
Learning organizations have found this service beneficial when first learning how to write quality maps or for providing proactive feedback to those struggling with the map writing process. The fee for this service is figured hourly. Cost varies depending on both the total number of map months/units examined and the current level of map quality, necessary revisions, and feedback commentaries.
