Common Core State Standards

Many states have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Districts and schools in these states are charged and challenged with creating systemic curriculum that ensures college and career readiness.

Architects design.

Contractors build.

In my curriculum mapping work, I have found teachers oftentimes struggle (at first) with thinking like architects when designing curriculum learning expectations. This is understandable due to college courses emphasizing teaching--how to get the learning taught--similar to contractors determining how best to construct architectural designs.

I specialize in working with districts and schools to design systemic curriculum in all disciplines and enjoy working alongside teachers as curriculum architects.

Regarding the CCSS, specifically ELA, I found it was imperative to create visual organizers that afforded teachers an opportunity to collegial study (by close reading) the ELA CCSS as K-12 Progressive Continuums focused on explicit/implicit (and sometimes, absent) learning expectations based on the progression of each grade level's standards.
