Teacher Training Curriculum Mapping

The future is not some place we are going,
but one we are creating.

To best serve you and your personal needs, please contact me directly via e-mail or call me at any time. Also, you may find it beneficial to fill out a Curriculum Mapping Needs Survey.

Consulting

To take into account or consider; to exchange views; confer. When a learning organization seeks a consultant's advice, all three actions play a role in conversation. Years of experience have led me to a working knowledge of the technical, professional, and emotional aspects of Curriculum Mapping. My expertise can assist you in developing or refining your long-term strategic plans, as well as your short-range goals and action plans.

For formal information, my Vitae contains my educational and professional experiences. The testimonials found within my Website offers a small slice of insight into comments shared by a few schools and districts that I have had the honor to work alongside. If you desire direct contact with a present or past learning organization, please contact me to arrange an e-mail connection or phone meeting. If desired, you may want to complete the Curriculum Mapping Needs Survey and e-mail or FAX the completed survey to me.

Training

Curriculum Mapping training can be compared to a multi-faceted diamond. Your learning organization may be interested in one or more facets, such as: Why map? What are the various types of maps? What is the best manner for developing the various types of maps? What is involved in quality map writing? What is involved in the Seven-Step Review Process? What are Essential Questions and how do they fit in? What should we consider concerning cultural change and meeting differently?

Each facet takes time to learn and fully comprehend. To ensure sustainability and self-sufficiency in a learning organization, specialized instruction and coaching in various facets oftentimes begin with training established Curriculum Mapping intra-organizations (i.e., Curriculum Mapping Cadre, Cabinet, and Councils). These members, in turn, play a part in training the remaining teachers throughout a learning organization. Dependent on where you are in your journey, your training focus or focuses can vary, as well as who participates in the training.

The best approach for determining your learning organization’s personal training needs is to e-mail me or call me so that we can discuss your current level of implementation. If desired, you may want to complete the Curriculum Mapping Needs Survey and e-mail or FAX the completed survey to me.

Quality Written Curriculum Map Analysis

Since curriculum maps are frequently accessed, read, and discussed by teachers during curriculum reviews without the map writer or writers present, consistency in wording, format, and intra-alignment throughout a learning organization contributes significantly to the quality and clarity regarding accurate map data interpretation. Learning both the language of mapping and proper recording protocols are paramount to establishing and maintaining your learning organization's desired level of curriculum articulation and alignment.

Curriculum map analysis is a service that provides a professional review of any type of map (Projected/Diary Map, Consensus Map, or Essential Map) using any mapping system, or if not yet using a system, using a generic template document.

When conducting a map analysis I:

a) make a copy of the map month or series of up to three months or units so map writer(s) can compare the original documentation to the recommended-revisions map notations and commentaries;
b) study the map data based on recommended guidelines for quality mapping wording, format, and intra-alignment as described in Chapter 4 of A Guide to Curriculum Mapping: Planning, Implementing, and Sustaining the Process, or the documents included in the Creating Quality Maps section of the Resources page;
c) revise the map months or units’ data by making notations directly on the map copies;
d) write reflective commentaries including reminders and specific recommendations based on the map’s current quality.

Learning organizations have found this service beneficial when first learning how to write quality maps or for providing proactive feedback to those struggling with the map writing process. The fee for this service is figured hourly. Cost varies depending on both the total number of map months/units examined and the current level of map quality, necessary revisions, and feedback commentaries.
