Teacher Training Curriculum Mapping

A journey of a thousand miles
begins with a single step.
--Chinese Proverb

As a full-time curriculum mapping consultant and trainer, I work closely with a variety of inner-city, urban, suburban schools, districts, dioceses, and counties. It has been, and continues to be, an honor to assist learning organizations as they move forward, either from their inception of curriculum mapping, or during small or large steps taken along the way.

Given current educational demands, such as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), aligning curriculum to standards, teacher leadership, collaborative data-informed decision making, and professional learning communities; planning, implementing, and sustaining a successful curriculum mapping initiative has a variety of challenges:

  • Ensuring that curriculum mapping becomes an integral facet of a learning organization’s ongoing curriculum design and decision-making process.
  • Providing adequate, ongoing instruction in the multi-faceted procedures and phases of curriculum mapping for administrators, teacher leaders, trainers, coaches, and all staff.
  • Establishing norms and protocols regarding curriculum mapping quality map writing and the use of technology
  • Providing adequate time for teachers to map and meet in a variety of grade levels and course configurations.
  • Staying abreast with the growth, development, and trends in curriculum mapping and a variety of interrelated educational models and practices.
